The markets are on a tear convinced normalisation is around the next corner. Yet they ignore the reality the Iran war has done significant damage to the global outlook – even if Tehran and Washington kiss and make up tomorrow. I don’t claim to understand the madness of markets and their ability to keep fooling themselves, but I do follow economic history and how events change outcomes.
Where are the Tech markets and AI heading? Are we due a meltdown or melt-up? Will the bubble bust, or do the current ructions reflect growing uncertainty on which directions upside lies? There is plenty to consider when trying to predict where AI and Tech eventually go.
Is the AI bubble bursting? Who will be the survivors and losers? Or is it more fundamental – US AI firms talk of spending billions, but what is China is doing AI better and cheaper? If China wins the AI race, then it will confirm more than just the waning of the American century. It will fundamentally shift valuations.
I am notionally on holiday this week, but it struck me Trump’s latest succession of “flooding the space” announcements is just flow in the on-going madness of markets and politics. I’ve loaded Catch-22 into my kindle to re-read in search of insights on what might come next.
Trade tensions are set to dominate this week – particularly for Europe and Japan. While Trump upsets his allies, the global nexus is moving to the wealth concentration in South East Asia and the future evolution of tech – nothing lasts forever.
Who would possibly want to be a billionaire? Hated by the mob, a victim of evil governments holding you back with tax threats while denying your basic human rights – like a platinum gold bank account! Give me poverty anytime…
There is nothing so dispiriting as dealing with a bank online. The experience will leave you frustrated and furious. Yet we all expect the AI revolution is going to absolutely change tech for the better. Wake up. Smell the Coffee. Prepare to be disappointed.
The markets expect Nvidia will bat it out the park… Unlimited joy and upside awaits! Is the pursuit of AI “maybe’s” overdone? There are plenty of real, positive and profitable investments out there – without the disappointment risk of having backed yet another hollow Tech pipedream.
China and the West are diverging into different economic camps. It stings both ways – Western companies trying to build new but more costly secure supply chains, while the Chinese economy struggles with lost orders. Can there be an accommodation? Would a Tesla survive a Kamikaze Pigeon attack? Tesla remains the tech stock that’s defying the ongoing valuations reality. Why? Because Musk still controls the narrative – and that may be about to change.
