Poor old Sir Keir Starmer. Wrong man in the wrong job. So much hope now squandered. But its important not to over-think or over-worry what comes next. In Gilts there is truth and the 10-year yield is still south of 5%. Andy Burnham needs to prove himself a leader and demonstrate ideas and action. Is that too much to ask?
The UK’s Torygraph Newspaper excelled itself over the weekend, publishing claims the UK is bust and seeking an IMF bailout. Their readership loved it as proof positive the UK is doomed and how terrible the new government is. It undermined the Gilts market, and raised substantial global investor fears over the investibility of the UK. The story was utterly unfounded.
The UK and Europe have signed a framework deal which should prove massively positive for both economies. It resets the UK’s place as a financial and politically sovereign nation close to the heart of Europe. That’s what Brexit always should have been – it’s going to trigger growth because it will boost CONFIDENCE!
The UK is in danger of becoming the unloved Piggy-in-the-Middle in terms of new global trade and geopolitical alliances. While China and the US place the pieces on the board, the value of Airstrip 1 is unclear. We have chosen where we now lie. We have chosen badly.
The UK faces multiple economic problems – all of which may be individually solved with considerable effort, but collectively look a clusterf*ck of monumental proportions. When it takes office, Labour will be given 100 days to solve them all. Who would want to be an MP?
Labour will win the coming election – if they don’t do anything stupid. Tory MP’s futures look bleak after their singularly unsuccessful 14 years in power. Such is politics: voters send failed politicians packing. It’s called democracy. Understanding why the Tories will lose is key to the effect on the UK's outlook.
Aston Martin’s extraordinary rally on the back of a F1 podium place squeezed out the shorts as fans backed their belief by buying the stock. The reality for the UK is bleaker – the UK budget next week (March 15) will do little to inspire global enthusiasm for the decaying economy. The UK needs something visionary and new!
The UK stock market hit a new high yesterday! And its all due to Brexit – apparently? Sometimes we bet on red and it comes up black. As long as the UK remains delusional about making a bad call, the nation will continue to underperform and sink down the league tables. We could make national honesty a strength!.
Something is rotten in the state… A deep rooted canker underlies the current crisis. Removing it will give the UK a real chance at some kind of Brexit Bonus, Growth and Prosperity. But we have to change, and change utterly.
The new Truss/Kwarteng grand plan to create a UK High Growth High Wage economy boils down to trickle-down economics, which simply don’t work. They won’t restore the economy, but they may, perversely, boost markets.
